As we bring 2014 to a close and begin to plan for 2015, each Lions Club in Alabama should plan to host a MEMBERSHIP GROWTH EVENT.

jones birthdayThe month’s of January and February are perfect for hosting a Growth Event. During the winter months, many people have limited social engagements.  Calendars are not cluttered with youth sports, college football or vacations.  Therefore, Lions events have a greater chance of capturing the attention of prospective members.

Although the JUST ASK program has been effective in many clubs, as of the end of November, 2014, about 66% of clubs in Alabama have had membership loss or no growth. We can begin to provide greater service through increased membership.

In January, event themes can center around Martin Luther King Celebrations, Winter Festivals, or Melvin Jones’ birthday.

In February, themes can center around Mardi Gras, Presidents Day, Valentines Day or Ground Hog Day.

Please request the READY, SET, GROW program for an easy, proven method of membership growth. Understand, if you choose to deviate from the plan that your results may differ.

Event Planning:
1. Select a date and theme.

2. Request each member to nominate five prospective members to be invited

3. Invite a Keynote speaker who can inspire guest to join our volunteer army

4. Enlist the help of each member to decorate, set-up and clean up.

5. Order 25 membership applications from Lions Clubs International.

If every club in Alabama were to recruit just one new member, in addition to any needed to cover membership loss, we would experience membership growth and be able to initiate new service projects.
